How many hours will I need?
A complete beginner in an automatic usually needs 30 to 40 hours. With some previous lessons, 15 to 25 hours is common. If you are close to test standard, or have recently failed a test, 5 to 10 hours with a mock test is often enough. Call us and we will give you an honest answer rather than the biggest course.
Why learn in an automatic?
There is no clutch and no gear changes, so almost all of your attention goes on the road rather than the car. Most learners reach test standard in fewer hours, which usually means a lower total cost even though the hourly rate is similar.
What licence do I get if I pass in an automatic?
A full automatic car licence. It covers every automatic and electric car, which is an increasing share of the cars on the road. If you later want to drive a manual you would take a separate manual test.
Do you teach manual courses too?
No. We run automatic courses only, so every instructor and every car is set up for automatic learners.
Do the hours have to be on consecutive days?
No. Consecutive days give the quickest pass, but hours can be spread across a couple of weeks to fit around work, college or shifts. Just tell us the days you cannot do.
Is the practical test included in the price?
Use of the car for your test is included. The DVSA test fee itself is paid directly to the DVSA when the test is booked.
Who books the practical test?
Since the DVSA rule change in May 2026, learners book their own practical test through GOV.UK. Tell us your date and we will build the course to finish just before it. If you have no test yet we will advise when to aim for.
What if I fail my test?
It happens, and it is rarely the whole drive that is at fault. We will go through the examiner's report with you and put together a short top-up course focused on the faults that cost you the pass.
Can I use your car for the test?
Yes — you take the test in the same dual-controlled automatic you learned in, with your instructor there.
How do I pay?
A deposit secures your dates and your instructor, and the balance is due before the course starts. Deposits and balances for every course length are listed on the prices page.
Do you pick me up?
Yes — from home, work or college anywhere in the area you booked.
I am a nervous driver. Is an intensive course right for me?
Often, yes. Nervous learners frequently do better on an intensive course because the gap between lessons is where confidence drains away. Tell us when you book and we will pair you with an instructor who is used to it and pace the days accordingly.
